For my cousin in utero
Since 2011 is officially the year of the rabbit it comes hardly as a surprise that so many of our friends decided to combat declining fertility rates all over Europe. I started early with presents for the offspring and sent this baby blanket to my uncle and his partner. Following Suzuko Koseki's crystal clear instructions for a basic log cabin quilt it came together like a breeze.

My drawer with all sorts of fabric leftovers is finally starting to look manageable and I really enjoy being reminded of projects past in every stripe of the quilt. The animals at the centre of the nine squares are also of Japanese origin. They can be found in my quite possibly favourite embroidery book, much used and much beloved, 'Embroidery animals & insects 380' (the title is misleading, mammals certainly dominate the pages, you could by it here).
